Petrogas is currently constructing its first system for the conversion of scrap plastics into oil. This three-line installation at Grossenhain in Germany will have an annual capacity of 15000 tonnes and comes with a price tag of roughly Euro 24 milion. This is a steep downpayment - but on a "rather lucrative" enterprise, says the company's sales director Edwin Hoogwerf. "Production costs are about 27 Euro cents per litre provides a healthy margin".
This approach comprises a shredding process, followed by purification, melting and vaporisation. The vapour is subsequently collected and cooled, resulting in several types of oil - although diesel oil is said to be the "key product".
